Insurance: Driving Other Cars cover
Discussion
Anyone know of an insurer that provides driving other cars cover these days, without the other vehicle being insured by the owner?
All new policies now seem to have this clause stipulating that the car must be insured by it's owner where-as previously I've not had this issue.
I don't want my cover to be risked by someone else having issues with their insurance.

Just checked their Policy wording and they stipulate that it has to be covered by it's own policy.
Also just rang these guys Crossbrook and even though they said it would need to be the car would still be covered if there wasn't another policy on the car.

I thought the standard approach was to let you drive on a "third party insurance only" basis any car "not belonging to the policyholder". In other words you are insured to drive other people's cars but not your own additional cars. How can you ever know for certain whether the other person's car is already properly insured?Defcon5 said:

Damn, must be a recent change that - I rang them up to check when I was with them last year and they said it was fine. They must have changed it when they changed it to 25+

It never was the general case, and still isn't.
Although as Zollar says, there is a shift in that direction now.
This because at some point early next year Continuous Insurance Enforcement will mean the other car should be insured anyway. There are exceptions, but we see increased moral hazard when the DOC driver borrows a car from someone who is likely to be "illegal" wrt lack of insurance.
As it stands, 25+ yo Barrys don't have many mates who will lend them their Imprezza and have no comeback if they crash it.
