Car for my sister

Hi chaps, my sister is looking for a new run around and looking to spend 1200 - 1300. Looking at a 306 HDI, Focus or Golf

Her requirements are;
Must be diesel
4 Door
Preferbly have a bit of service history.
A good chunk of MOT and Tax
Safe, clean and tidy as it has to transport around her young son too.
In and around the Leicester area would also be a bonus, say within a 35 mile radius.

So what have you got or what have you seen?

ETA - just spoken with her and she is willing to travel up to 50 miles, can it have less than 120k, and have had the cambelt done.

The 306 HDI is my choice. Looking for an estate myself as I feel at 21 I'm a little too old to be driving around in 3 door hatchbacks.

The issue you might have for that budget is a lack of history and no certainty the cambelt will have been changed in the past few years.

Had a very quick look in the classifieds, there's one here although it's up for £1950. Guess it could get nearer £1500 with a bit of haggling - but have a look around and on Autotrader maybe.

They're made by VW / Audi in case you've been living on the moon for the last 15 years. Lots of people on here seem to like them.

You'll struggle to find a decent Focus in that price range. Plenty of MK4 Astras about for that price.

Thanks for all of your advice so far, I've tried to steer her toward the Skoda but she is having none of it even though told her it's a vw underneath sigh.
