Bellend! As has been said, any insurance will be invalid. I saw an E36 coupe with an M3 engine on Autotrader once, the seller was using the fact that it was on the V5 as 320 as a selling point.

incorrect.

if this guy crashes into you, his insurance company will payout to fix your car.

but will then sue the guy for all there costs, and make it immpossible for him to get insurance agin in the near future.

This reminds me of a an argument I had with my mrs about not declaring mods such exhaust/rempp etc. If I had an after market exhaust fitted or I bought a car which had mods but did not declare it to my insurer and they inspected my car for a claim and found the mods, could I play dumb and just claim that I wasn't aware of them? If you knew nothing about cars how could you be expected to spot them?

100's of WRX's are listed as gl's. By all accounts when you import a car you can get whatever you want put on the V5. Personally I automatically ignore any advert that brags about the V5 being wrong because its a fair bet the person selling is a lying .

Whats the score if, for instance: You bought an impreza that had been remapped (a little) and you were totally unaware? Do the insurers have any discretion?

The line is bizarre.

Only selling as girlfriend is pregnant and need something more practical.

Surely that is the point of these cars, they are quick practical 4-door saloon's.

Unlikely the insurers would be able to tell if it was re-mapped. Exhausts, induction mods, different wheels etc would all be picked up on though and I doubt pleading ignorance would do much to help though, there is some responsibility on the owner to know what it is he is insuring.

If you GENUINELY didn't know, then I believe that the insurer would honour the contract.

When imported it was registered as a gl non turbo, so its upto you what you tell your insurance company.

Ding-a-ling-a-ling. Worth doing an HPI check then, sounds like it might throw up something interesting.

When I got my 'K'93 plater in 1996 I was under direct order to get what ever I liked as long as it had a boot and 4 seats jsut in case SWMBO needed to stick the kids in it or go shopping if her car was off the road.

Anyone lying to insurance co is a tool, when I sold mine in 1998 it had lots of mod done and the insurance knew about all of them, the bloke who purchased said he was going to tell them it was a standard WRX,as I tried to explaine to him, insurance companies all use computers and all my details on the car are on a database somewhere, if it flags up they will see it went from standard to MOD'd and back to standard [lie] so wont be happy.

Still 3 weeks after I sold it it was parked on its roof in a ditch

I hope his insurer comes across his advert before it sells.

I've always been tempted to tell a salesperson to knock said amount off the car and keep the plate, see how they react.
