Horses on the road

Does anyone else get frustrated when driving along only to slow up behind a herd of slightly overweight girls happily trotting along on their horses? I mean aren’t these mammals supposed to be in fields and jumping over stripy poles etc, not making more of a meal of our journey than a blinkin' cyclist!

You need to give them a very wide berth and drive slowly past so as not to startle the poor things

I was behind one today whilst our on a razz, as I approached I managed to read 'Pass slowly please' emblazoned on the high visibility jacket. Really? Well why don’t you just trot off back to the stables and do some horsey exercises instead of spoiling a good drive...

I know horses were the primary transport mode before cars, and they were there first and all that but seriously; give me a break!

All by the same author, and all pretty much need the same amount of attention.

Horses? Pah! It's cars that usually hold me up on my drives. Horse account for a miniscule amount of total delay for me. Plus, as they're slow, they're easy to overtake. I don't mind sharing the roads with other users, it's the numpties in the cars that cause most of the issues.

Thing is, you can overtake cyclists etc at more then walking pace without them having a panic attack and going nuts. Also, i dont know of any cyclists that st all overt the roads causing a hazzard, and generally mucking up cars....

Horses on the road don't bother me tbh, haven't really passed any for months actually.
9 out of 10 times I pass or horse or a group of nags, say thank you when I slowly pass them.

It's cyclists they get my goat, they stick too far out of the road so can't pass them slowly, I don't like to toot my horn in case one falls under my skinny 13in wheels.

You know it would all be a lot easier if we just all calmed down and learned to tolerate each other wouldnt it? So you had to lift off and slow down for all of 30 seconds? not really the end of the world is it? Would you rather said horses were in the back of a horse box doing 20 mph for mile after mile holding you up for longer?... Thought not.

I live in the country and encounter horses on average twice a week, they present no problem. Its the fecking tourists in the middle of the lanes and wrong side on the tight bends that piss me off.

What pisses me off is that horses can just st wherever the fk they want, yet my dog gets slapped a £1000 fine on its arse if it so much as squats for a fart.

Horse st is fking huge and is just left to be smeared all over the road for weeks. The riders should have to dismount and clean it up but noone apart from me seems to give a st.

Horse st is mainly grass (they are vegetarians) , doesn't stink so much and its biodegradability is very high.

My dogs don't eat meat.

I have nothing against horses. I tolerate them on the road and have no problem slowing and waiting for a safe place to pass.

Maybe try picking up your horses st on the side of the road with a plastic bag. You wont be such a fan of it after that.

Nothing against horses and riders (as mentioned, a nice lass with her jodphurs on being bounced around on a horse is a sight well worth slowing down for), but I do have a slight concern for the riders who go out in the evenings/when it's dark. It's fine me being able to see them, but I'm always worried that UHU-to-be will get startled and start bucking as it goes through the dusk peacefully, only to be disturbed by a set of head/taillights.
