had to speak to bmw earlier, and the 1M is going to have 303bhp.
basically the same as the 135i then. so they must have made it a lighter car, or there wouldn't be any point. unless it just has uprated brakes, suspension etc?
thoughts?
BMW haven't confirmed the spec of the 1M yet (and won't be for another few months at least) so whoever you talked to was BS'ing.basically the same as the 135i then. so they must have made it a lighter car, or there wouldn't be any point. unless it just has uprated brakes, suspension etc?
thoughts?
But it almost certainley will have at least 350hp from informed insider info.

It looks like the front bumper has ducting for the brakes. Maybe this will be the first M-car that doesn't require an upgrade to enjoy it fully on track.krallicious said:

Not much of an "M" car then is it?Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but I find it a bit ridiculous that BMW can make an M version of a car that can't handle track use.

Hooligan "enough" is never enough.
Not having driven the 135i I'm not in a position to compare, but I'm hoping that the 1M goes properly hardcore, like the M3 GTS.
You'd love it, it reminded me of how M cars used to be. A fun car, but don't tell everyone as I want a cheap used one.

I have driven the 135i (own a 130i) and it is rapid. But it lacks the je ne sais quois that a full fledged M car has.

An Audi S5 will be fast, but the RS5 will always be that much better honed and possess greater depth.
Somehow I doubt it will go as hardcore as the M3 GTS - that is a world above ordinary M cars.

303bhp would be absolutely fine, provided it weighs well under 1400kg and has excellent suspension, steering and throttle response.
Read post before username, already knew it had to be you at "throttle response", lol.Though you are right, a direct driving experience would be a fantastic change.

I emailed news@pistonheads yesterday with a link to that video. I had received an email from the m-coupe closed room with a link to it, but nobody replied

Not going to happen....weight wise, and the engine will be at least *35iS spec if not a bit more....so that's a min of 335-340hp.Judging by the, what appears to be, a now compromised spec to meet production timelines, it will a miracle if this 1M actually weigh LESS than a bare bones 135i...... but with a full wide track M3 chassis and M-LSD etc., it should handle and steer better than a 135i.
