Mondeo TDCI - DMF

I thought I'd ask for advice from the all knowing PH brigade!

Is the DMF a really big problem on the Mondeo TDCI's? (probably 130bhp version of 03/04 vintage).

If so what should I look for to make a judgment on any impending catastrophe?

Noised and rattles on idle, that tend to change if you depress the clutch.

They can get a rattle on idle that is the bottom pulley, not that bad a job, but not super cheap either.

I think most DMF issues come on cars that people neglect, ie hear a rattle and ignore it.
