BMW GT - yey or ney?

I saw one for the first time this morning (that I noticed anyway).

A 5 series with a sloping back by the look of it.

Much like the fugly X6 only lower to the ground.

Why they bother is beyond me; why not just stick with the traditional and usually beautifully executed tourings models.

I think it's actually more like the 7-series than the 5-series, except in styling. It's basically a 7-series estate but BMW didn't want to make a 7-series estate so they built something that looks like an ugly 5-series... thing... instead.

My old boss had one. Not my cup of tea but I suppose it suits others.

It's actually much bigger than the 5 series or at least it felt that way......

There are two locally to me. A white one which looks huge and a dark metallic blue one which looks slightly better. I`d have one though.

There`s also a dark brown X1 locally which is just plain ugly.

Badly proportioned in terms of styling. Going on appearances alone, for me, undesirable. Until I saw their used prices. For obvious reasons, depreciation is pretty bad on these, so you have to reconsider them if buying second-hand.

I make a 1400km journey a few times each year, which takes about 14hrs doing it in one day. For this type of journey, the GT makes massive sense, and is probably the best BMW to choose.

I wouldn't buy one new, but as a fully loaded, long distance 7 series hatchback, then definitely worth a second thought if buying used.

X6 looks good, this just doesn't.

Interestingly, we all said that about Bangle's early BMW stuff, yet many folks (myself included) think his stuff has matured rather nicely despite initial disgust.

Still think the 5GT and X6 etc are hideous though...

Agree completely about the Bangle comments. I never liked the 1 series however after the minor facelift, I think it's a top looking car. Much better than the new Golf, Skodas and boring A3. Of course it's my personal point of view but it's the best of the bunch by miles.

The 5 Series GT has been done to death here (as has the X6). It's an ugly car - unlike the new 5 Series - but it is very practical and gets good reviews. I just wouldnt' want to look at it every day.

Britain is a just small (almost bankrupt) island in the north east Atlantic. BMW sell their cars all round the World, and these days they will be concentrating on the important growth markets like Russia, China, India, Brazil etc. Consumers over there have money, but perhaps less taste (by our standards).

Get over it. BMW don't make cars for us anymore; they make cars for 'them'...!

The X1 is worse. The front is an abomination. The fronts of the X5, new X3 and even the X6 lok fine, so it is mystifying that the X1 just looks so wrong.

The X6 - fugly. X1 - fugly/pointless. GT - bizarre.

BMW have seriously lost their way of late, 'tis a sad state of affairs.
