Cleaning oil off a driveway

Afternoon folks,

One of my stupid friends foolishly bought my E30 off me recently and isn't quite bright enough to realise that when a car is lowered you have to be careful on speedbumps and kerbs and whatnot... As such he has just cracked his second sump and dumped oil all over another friend of mine's driveway.

Obvious question; How should he clean it up? The drive is tarmac and there's a lot of oil.

Less obvious prerequisite; E30 lad is not the most elegant chap in the world, so we need a method that requires absolutely no skill, strength or balance.

Coke is good for getting oil off.

We have a red brick drive and I got oil off using coke, granted it was a small patch but it does work.

I'd start by using concrete (as in the dry powdery stuff, don't do this in the rain!) or maybe kitty litter or similar to soak up the worst, and then use a scrubbing brush and washing up liquid with plenty of water.

You could contact some members of a local travelling community, I understand they are skilled in such things.

Sawdust, then cola to remove the stain.

I used to use a mixture of VIM powder and washing up liquid to deep clean it all but now I use spray bottles of Engine Degreaser from our local 99p shop. I think the firm that makes it is called Astonish

A trigger action body, green liquid it works brilliantly.
Which reminds me, trip to the 99p shop for another five bottles

Spray on, leave five or ten minutes and washaway with a hose pipe

In all likelihood the oil will destroy the tarmac, eating it over time. Sounds like an insurance job to me.

Thought that kind of stuff shouldn't be used on tarmac?

You can try to use Kitty litter and a Brick. Sprinkle the kitty litter on the oil to soak it up.
Broom it off then go back and throw more more kitty litter on it and use a brick to scrub it off.
I had luck with this method many times....
