what are the most impressive engine conversions?

Have been thinking about getting something a bit insane and was wondering what things are about that could possibly be used every day, so no drag cars please.
Has any one got any experience of v-tech minis they look fun?

There's a roundnose Mini running around somewhere with a 7-odd litre V8 upfront. It was built for the strip but it's road legal, that impressive enough for you? I shall go for a hunt and find the details.

Honda/Audi powered Elise 200-400 bhp.

There are lots around, and some currently for sale in the pistonheads classifieds.

Prices vary from 14k for a bogo Honda, to 35+ for a big power top spec Audi/supercharged Honda.

I use my Honda Elise everyday, absolutely love it and for a car that does 0-60 in around 4 seconds, it returns 35 mpg
