OK, so the 996 isn't the most celebrated 911, but a 911 is a 911 and that means impeccable poise, unquestionable pedigree and useable performance.

Just how cheap can a well maintained, low mileage example be? Temptingly, almost throw-away cheap apparently and i'm sure you can find cheaper too

For a modern 911? Thats a bargain. Most on my street spend that on a family car, and with a 911 you won't lose much either. OK, so it's not £1800 cheap like my Merc but its bloody cheap for what was a £50k car not long ago in my eyes. Stupidly cheap in fact. Offer £15,000 cash and it might be yours.

The 996 is the only era of 911 I've driven. Assuming I could afford to buy and run one, I'd have one in a shot.

It may not be the favoured generation but I don't remember caring at the time!

That said, the older models are rather tasty and some of the newer ones are interesting too - I see how it might be possible to drive an almost exclusive diet of posh beetles for number of years. Not many cars with such variety in their model history / line-up.

It's a bargain as long as it doesn't break. A 15k Porsche will cost a st load more to repair than a 15k family motor. Suppose it's all relative, I just paid 500 quid for a v70 Volvo, in 'my' book that's throw-away cheap.

I have a long history of buying hideous, arse-ugly vehicles and generally don't care about aesthetics in the slightest, but even i couldn't live with those fking 996 headlights.

I know it's ridiculous, but bleargh. No.

I'm just scanning the classifieds for no paticular reason tonight and some cars and so cheap at the moment. I realise there is a thread running for this sort of thing so I won't post them, but bargains seem to be out there.
