Morning all,
I'm thinking of selling the land rover and get a bit of a quicker snotter, but I'm not quite sure what to replace it with, hence the need for one of these threads. Requirements as follows:

I'm thinking of selling the land rover and get a bit of a quicker snotter, but I'm not quite sure what to replace it with, hence the need for one of these threads. Requirements as follows:
- Less than £2k
- Should be able to enjoy it on a track day should the TVR have another hissy fit and not play
- Relatively comfy on the motorway
- Not needing to do a huge number of miles <7,500miles p.a.
- Economy not so important, bigger the engine the better
- Ideally an estate, but a big saloon I can throw crap into will be equally as good
- Preferrably rear wheel drive
- I don't mind getting the spanners out to work on it, but it would be nice if it was mostly reliable

Is the impreza wagon, not the legacy? Or am I mistaken? I must admit I've not looked into Japanese cars massively before.

To be a RWD saloon or estate under £2k and ok'ish on track really leaves little choice tbh. As in a BMW. AWD would open up a few Impreza's and FWD Volvo's, Mondeo's and just about anything.
Actually one I've just though of would be an Omega (or even a nice Senator if there is one still). You'll likely get more for your money than a BMW will offer.
A smaller alternative might be something like an MGZS180. Hatch or small saloon and a pretty sorted chassis and nice engine. 2004 model probably in budget too.

Easy enough to sort. There was a guy on a drift day I went to recently who had an E34 540i with a slightly agriculutural homemade exhaust system and an LSD for somewhere (scrap M5 maybe?) It handled beautifully (as far as we could see from the outside) and made a sound like an angry NASCAR.

^ That. Forester is also based on the Impreza chassis but is a boxier wagon with a bit more ground clearance.
Legacy is the next size up, Outback is a Legacy wagon with a bit more clearance.
Legacy GTB has the 280bhp 2.0 twin-turbo, I rather like mine.

If it's sub £2k RWD you want with practicality, as ever the answer is going to be a BMW. The already mentioned E34 was a good shout, if you're lucky you may also find an E39 528i in your budget, though expect high mileage for that price. If you can cope without RWD though, how about an Alfa 156 V6? (Only issue may be boot space...)
