new shell fuelsaver unleaded

I'm always cynical about such things, but having tried it on a 130 mile run involving a bit or urban, a-road and motorway, my 2.0 mondeo returned 40.5mpg! Normally with a light foot I would be lucky to get 36ish.

Is anyone else seeing results like that? It helps that its the cheapest fuel locally, at 1.13, but if I am also getting over 10% more economy, its like paying just over £1 a litre.

I should go onto their website and see how it works, but who cares, it seems to!

I will tell you on sunday. I'll be doing a run that should take a full tank, but if it's to believed i'll have enough to get to work on monday too!

I always use shell as it's on the way home, was just saying to the misses , I think I'm getting about an extra 40 miles to the tankful on this stuff. (60L talk)

Snake oil. Unless it's got more energy in it (like diesel) I don't see how you're going to get better mpg.

All the Shell ad's are very carefully worded to make clear they don't give any promises. But it should help as part of your calorie controlled diet!

I recently had a gallon of old 2-stroke fuel to use up so dumped it in the car's fuel tank with a fresh fill of petrol. Weirdly I seemed to get better mpg!!!!!!!!

I've now used a couple of tanks of the unleaded and hadn't noticed any adverse effects (or improved MPG) until yesterday when the car just seemed sluggish under low revs.

I can't comment about any engine noise as the engine always sounds like a bag of spanners at idle (like most petrol and diesel BMW's do now).

Anyway, brimmed her with V Power this am and all seems fine. Don't know if it wa just a perception thing but will try the fuelsaver again as its sooo much cheaper than V Power (usually fill up with V Power every 3rd tank)

Filled up my car with Fuelsave and my car has gone up by 1.5mpg over 200 miles covered since last fill up. Driving to the same places and in the same manner.

Actually found that my economy went down when I was using V-Power.

Not true. Only a small percentage of the energy in the fue is actually released and converted to usable power. Most improvements in engine and fuel technologies have been focused on improving this percentage. In the fuel this can be done by improving the way in which the fuel atomisation occurs with smaller particles and so a better and more even burn and improved power delivery.

I notived poor economy with VPower also, but this was the Diesel. I found out the reason why, low density, which means less energy for Diesels, all other things being equal.

I'm not sure a lot more energy can be got from fuel by using additives, maybe a couple of percent due to a better burn. Almost all of the energy contained in fuels is released during the combustion cycle, it's just that most of it is wasted as heat due to the inherent nature of current internal combustion engines.

I have really noticed a difference. I used shell anyway, so comparing to shells previous unleaded motorway slogs used to get aroudn 40 mpg, can now get 42. My commute, a mix of town and a bit of ring road has gone up from 35ish to 38 ish with a light foot. V. Impressive IMO. Its also the cheapest at 112.9, and shell drivers points, can't ask for more.

Ever since I switched to Super Unleaded (from whatever manufacturer I happen to fill up at), my car (2.2i Z4 '05) seem to be giving me about 2 MPG more on comparable runs.

The figures have been calculated using RoadTrip on my iPhone and filling the tank.

Been hitting higher figures than I have ever managed before, even when my runs have involved less steady driving and more traffic lights and traffic.

With the increase, the cost per mile (for fuel), seems to be only slightly higher if that, depending of where I fill up.

Shell V-Power did give me an exceptionally high MPG, but I have been somewhat unwilling to repeatedly fill up at Shell with V=Power as my local one is more expensive and its 6-7p more than normal unleaded to boot. Sainsburys on the other hand is only 3p more expensive for Super Unleaded.

At some point, I might get around to filling up consecutively will Shell V-Power. But it does depend on my travel and whether I can find reasonably priced Shell petrol stations.
