How much for a steering wheel?
it's a few wires and a round object about a foot in diameter, cost to make, oh about £100.
An ipod connection? Any bidders? An ipod is a pretty clever bit of kit and costs about £100 with a camera etc etc. How much do the wires cost in a Ferrari to link it up, only £540 ... ummm.
How about some specially painted wheels? Silver alloy wheels are standard nowadays for most cars but Ferrari can make you stand out from the crowd with these
A lot more impressive than mere silver wheels no doubt you agree.
Finally, you do get a 3/4 size exhaust thrown in for free, which consdidering the above can only by considered a result
A flat plane 8 into 3 exhausts. Bloody marvellous.

Not sure on the newer cars, but they used to be enamaled shields that sat inside specially made recesses on the wings, which is why it got pricey.EK993 said:

You;ve missed a big thing - options, much like starters and sweets at resteraunts, are the way that car makers can maximise profits whilst not decreasing their market overly.
Punter A is price concious? They'll walk in, have the main course, and leave. Thats 8-9 quid.
Punter B not price concious? a 5 - 6 quid starter. and 5 quid on a pudding. Without putting the prices up on the mains (which would stop punter A buying), the resteraunt has managed to ge the non-price sensetive buyer (B) to aprt with 19 quid.
In exactly the same way, some people will save up what they can, finance the rest, and squeeze into a Ferrari 458, with very few options because that is what they can afford. Meanwhile, footballers, oil barons and Jordan will buy every blingy extra, because it looks nice - and price is not important to them. In fact, for certain items, the daft price only serves to make them want it more. IMO this sort of strategy is the only way that niche car makers can produce the volumes required to survive, whilst keeping the margins healthy.
I'm all for it, without people buying new Ferraris, I have no chance of getting a tatty old one in a few years. A tatty old one with lots of extras. And painted wheels.
