want a van whats best for 5k

Want to use a van mainly as a car also to sleep in at weekends long trips ect did a search and found bad reports on transit vivaro traffic the newer the van the bigger the bills

T4 Transporter?

Had a Traffic from New (54 plate) now got 140k, on top of the normal servicing its had, new clutch slave cylinder and a new clutch (while it was apart), new gear linkages, both rear wheel bearings, front suspension arms, new turbo and now it needs a gearbox.
We have loads of them in work, they all seem to fail with similar stories anyware above 60k. They are excellent to drive but i wouldnt buy another one

My mother picked up a VERY fresh car for £6k a couple of months ago. Excellent condition & she had some mods done to enable it to convert to a full double bed, mains hookup, interior blinds etc all within the price she paid.

I got a Caddy about 8months ago for a shade under 6k, if thats any use to you. I drive it daily, its comfortable, gets good mileage and its pokey enough.

Agree. Excellent drive and ride, but if it was my own money, and a mere 5k of my own money, it would be into a Transporter.

They're more expensive than an equivalent Transit etc, but there is a good reason for that.

Transporter either or T4 or a T5, if you can get one a T5 but your budget is at the lower end of The T5 Market

You could buy a Transit but as stated before they are cheaper for a reason

I drive a company Vivaro on an almost daily basis to Wales and back, a 100+mile round trip. It's suprisingly comfortable, easy to drive, reliable and gets approx. 550miles per tank fully laden. Never going to be quick, but it sits nicely when up to speed and also handles quite well - better than the new shape Transits I've driven.

Not bad at all for a 'budget' van.

We run around 3000 vans at work and they are in the main vivaros and trafics with a small handful of transits. The transits are garbage but the others rarely have any problems.

I drive a 2001 MB Vito... you can pick these up for about 5k (in fact you can have mine) but I would not bother - they just break and rust !!!

I would go for the VW and if your money can stretch I would opt for the T5 over the T4 (although the T4 is still a good van).

it has to be a Ex AA van doesnt it, bright yellow transporter and most if not all have the better double back doors and sliding side doors.

What about a T4 caravelle..?? More car like creature comforts up front and in the back (heater etc) and just take the back seats out for a sleeping area.
