Bumper repair costs

I came out to my garage (in a private block of garages) this morning to find a car parked in front of it blocking me in. I managed to get my garage door open (just) and beeped my horn a few times hoping to draw someones attention but to no avail, I waited around 10 minutes. I had an urgent appointment I needed to get to so was in a predicament. I tried all the doors and boot of the car but they were locked, I pushed it and it moved slightly, I manage to move it 6ft but then my legs were no longer touching the wall so I couldnt move it any more. I reversed slowly until my car made contact with it and pushed it backwards until I had enough room to get out, my bumper has a slight scratch as does the car I moved (I left my phone number on the windscreen) should it come to it what sort of money would a 6 inch scratch (not at all deep, just a surface scratch) on a painted bumper cost to fix as a smart repair? I'm sure lots of people will say I was out of order and should have waited but I simply could not. It is obviously a private block and I have never seen the car before and didn't think everyone would appreciate being woken up by me knocking on their doors at 0715 in the morning trying to find the owner. At the end of the day the car was parked on private land blocking what was obviously a garage so if it wasn't blocking the garage and parked in an empty space it wouldn't have happened.

What would you do?

To get them painted and sprayed about £200 per bumper. I'd try claiming it off the guy who blocked you in, not the other way round

I didn't mean for my car, I meant for the one blocking me in.

What sort of rights do I have to access my garage? Have I broken the law or anything by pushing the other car out of the way? I'm paranoid that a lynching mob will be waiting for me on my return tonight

I think you could have called the Police and had it removed. May have taken a while though.

Whoever it was, was in the wrong for parking there. Used to drive me nuts at my old address when people did stuff like this!

No lynching mob was waiting for me when I got home and the car has been parked up outside a house now. I had visions of it still being in the place I pushed it to (middle of the garage block) when I got back The more I think about it the less guilty I feel so I'll see if the owner approaches me, I certainly wont be denying it.

Not sure if the BIB would be interested if it was on private property.

Used to have problems some years ago with people parking across my drive and the police came out every time and either did a check on the number and asked the owner to move it or if they could not find them then they guided me along the pavement to the next space onto the road.

The bottom line is that the inconsiderate &%"$ blocking you in cannot complain if you cause the minimum damage to their vehicle in order to move it.
