Cars which hold value due to strange cult status

(thread title - i maxed out the number of letters!)
I was thinking (rare i know!).
there are some cars that just seem to keep their value..and it doesn;t feel right that they do. I am not saying that they're s
te just that relative to the alternatives they seem a bit dear.
A perfect example is the old van shaped suzuki swift GTI. great engines etc (100bhp from a 1.3 if you recall) but ehy're 15-20 yr old jap boxes with middling handling etc etc and they're all £1500...
What else?

The OH wants one, they are not my favourite vehicles. I find it frankly comedic the going prices for old Fords (mk 1/2 escorts, cossies etc.), especially when you see examples that aren't actually that good.
Hey, that said, if someone wants to pay the money then sobeit.
As for more oddball cars, well there aren't many around so those that are left are sought after. Every car has it's fanboys who will pay the money.

Odd that as friend of mine got a swift GTI for £200 with T&T to use as a engine donor.
id have thought nearly every hot hatch falls into this catagory especially those from 70s/80s, hence why a decent mk1 golf or mk1 escort are worth more than a 5year old mondeo!

there's a proper big image-based thing with 205s/golfs/rwd 'scorts even r5gtts...
there are then things like lupo gtis which i also understand to a point (although spending the same on a lupo gti as an MCS would probably mark you out as mental (and i really like lupo gtis!)).
and there are proper slightly more underground cults like dc2s and ae86s.. but the swift..? as i say good in parts but they have always been a fairly forgotten car so why so dear?

king love twingos.When i was in school everytime you saw one the road you had to shout TWINGO and slap the person on your left on the back of the head.
The school trip to France was brutal.
Also go a chance to drive one a few years ago, nowhere near as bad as i thought they would be.

..that's not quite what i mean though. mk1/2 golfs are well established asa proper cult car dating back to the fact they were very well regarded when they were new. etc etc.i was angling more for fairly 'non-cars' that (must) have a bit of a following because of the high prices asked..
I'll probably get lynched and I must add I have never driven one, but the E30 M3 has always amazed me when you look at the E36 and even E46 used prices.
Like I said, I have never driven one so I might be way off the mark, but for the price of an E30 M3 in good nick there are some seriously useful cars about - although this is probably the same for every car...

We have one and its a right old hound but its still worth more than a really nice Moggy.

Dont understand the VW camper thing either, used to get a lift to school in one off a mates dad, it was the height of mortifying embarassment, they had no surfer cool back then.
