£70? Are you having a laugh?

Situation: Had to pop to the bank before it shut, so was driving down Reigate High Street in solid traffic. I'm about to go around the one way system when a car parked on the left indicated to move out. 'Excellent!' I think, letting him out and taking his space. Run into the bank (10m away), there's no queue, bank my cheque, and go back to the car. My paying-in slip is timed 14:17, the parking ticket 14:20. This is impossible, as it doesn't take three minutes to walk 10 metres. So, in the - quite literally - five minutes that I was there, some st of a traffic womble watched me park, waited for me to go into the bank, gave me a fking ticket, and ran away. I now have to pay the equivalent of two days earnings (which takes a fortnight at my Saturday job) in order for some tt to get one more ticket towards his fking bonus. In the mean time, I have to fork out another £40 to set the tracking on the car because of the monster fking potholes that the council have completely neglected to fix for the past six fking months.

Apparently it was a 'Loading Only' bay. It says that on the road, but of course that was covered in traffic. Anyway, if they want to be so stting pernickety, I was actually 'loading' my cheque into the bank.

Utter s.

If you were really poor, you'd be paying into a bank in Redhill.

Go back, park legally, take lots of photos and then go and ask the nice people at pepipoo to tell you if there are any ways that the ticket is illegal.

The legisslation that parking fine must follow is acually quite tight so there is a good chance you will be able to argue it.

Also, are you sure it is not £35 now and £70 if you don't pay with 14 days?

ETA, are you bringing thenew car out on sunday?

Seems fair enough really.

Although in a loading bay they should really hang around long enough to see if you actually are loading.

Who actually says, legally, that paying in a cheque does not constitute loading/unloading?

Sure it's not like it's outside comet puting a new tv in the back, or dropping stuff off at the charity shop but how the hell can they make that one stick?

If the Bank was 10m away, and there was no queue inside, how did you manage to take "literally 5 minutes"?
Parking tickets, whilst annoying and expensive, are usually deserved, as in this case.

You are allowed a 3 - 5 min grace period to get change in most cases. Which I would claim you were doing in the bank. Esp as you have a ticket for that. I did actually get a ticket that was refunded as my quid would not be accepted by the machines ( and no the classic rub it on the side of the machine didn't work. I bought a ticket with exchanged quid form the shop which was 10:42 and the ticket was 10:44! So I posted it ( after taking a copy) and it was overturned!

I guess you are farked as it was a loading bay.

It would, but unfortunately I don't have £70 a the present. Spent it all on a car earlier this afternoon. Don't know if that's some kind of karma or what...

Look on the bright side. You could have parked illegally in London and your car would have been towed away: £250 + £30 a day storage fee. You'd be working every Saturday for the next five years before you'd get your car back!

Loading bays need to be a specific size, marked with specific thicknesses of line and indicated by a post-mounted sign unless I'm mistaken. If any of these are not the case, let it go to court and you'd probably win by default.

My father got a parking ticket. On his car, after he passed out at the side of the road and was taken to hospital via ambulance where he died 3 weeks later.

Put a ticket on it despite the Paramedics leaving a note saying the driver had been taken to Hospital and where to find him.

I successfully contested two tickets for parking in a loading bay with Greater Manchester Police on the grounds that I was posting ebay sales!

I did have to provide proof that I was a registered business seller, but worth bearing in mind if it happens to anyone else.

Do you and the bank both use atomic clocks? Or do you phone the bank every morning to synchronise your swiss certified chronometer with their machine?
