additive to "help" when diesel filled up with petrol?

my wonderful (!) wife has just put petrol in her 320 CDI E class - the AA are draining it as I type however they are suggesting an additional £20 to add "a mystery additive"

"helps to make sure you wont have any problems in the future"


anyone any knowledge of this or is it witchcraft

Its a big sticker for the fuel cap that says "diesel, you silly mare"

I am trying to advise her from a a distance the AA already want £190........

the only thing that occurs to me is something like Millers Diesel Power (which ain't £20 a bottle - and you wouldn't put a bottle in at once)

how much petrol?
if not a lot 5litres or so just fill it with Diesel and drive it
petrol is added to diesel to prevent waxing in winter.

Fifth Gear ran a piece on this and for small amounts of petrol or diesel in the wrong car it didn't make that much difference if you just filled up with the correct fuel once you'd realised your mistake.

I got one of these and sneaked it into my colleagues fuel cap after he'd got his car back from the dealer after filling up with petrol in his diesel company car. Was brilliant, he never lived it down.

It'll be worthwhile, but I guarantee it'll be profiteering on the AAs part.

They one tried to charge me £8 for a large jubilee clip. I laughed at the guy and told him to behave.

Whilst sitting in the LR/jag dealer with an elderly bloke whom had filled his new S type Jag with Petrol(it being a Diesel)
the dealer had replaced:
Injectors
fuel pump
all Fuel lines
filters
and that day it was back for the Tank to be replaced! even though they thought it ok to drive for a week whilst waiting on the tank to arrive

total rip off of the paying insurance company..
