Budget tyre recommendation for E39 535i please?

As per the subject, I need a pair of rear tyres for my '02 E39 535i.

These are 255/40/17.

Money is very tight due to being put on a 3 day working week, hence I have no option but to fit budget tyres (but not too budget - no crap).

I have found Nankang NS2's for approx £75 fitted.

Are these tyres suitable (load ratings etc) and does anyone have any opinions on these?

Of course if anyone can recommend anything else...

I would try and find some used ones . Wouldn't put anything but decent rubber on that car , think if you crash it it will cost you much more that 400 quid

The only thing they're suitable for is lighting bonefires or maybe keeping an engine off a workshop floor.

If you're strapped for cash, you'll probably find one of your local tyre places will sell you some pre-worn premium tyres which will be cheaper.

Falken FK452's.

Rated very well on here and other places, so I bought some to replace the Contisport 3's that cost twice the price and they grip just as well in both dry and damp conditions.

Those are rated for 186mph and 690kg, which I presume is plenty for an E39!

I did have a bireif search on Ebay for some part worns, but most of what I found appears to be rubbish.

I agree with your sentiments re decent rubber though - hence I'm trying to find the cheapest decent rubber I can.

Not a good combination I know!

I can't rate the FK 452's highly enough.

I had them on the ST220, then on the E39 530D awesome tyre, and very well priced as well.

I run Falken 912s on my 528, pretty hard to fault for the price, lasting very well and are exceptional in the wet. Not as sporty looking as 452s admittedly

Do Marangoni do an E39 fit? - they get good press and sit between true budget tyres and the premium brands in terms of cost.

I've tried Marangoni Vantos in a 195/60R14 size and they're great.
