A car for serious vintage PHers, the engine sticks out on both sides of the bonnet...



Mad! Wooden chassis!



Awesomely bonkers; torpedo shaped header tank, wedge shaped (primative aerodynamics?)radiator, totally exposed enormous engine, cart springs, metal seats that look like they've come off a vintage tractor, dashboards and windscreens are for girls.... ...is wearing a helmet in this car a sign of an odd sense of humour?

I immediately thought 'Franay' but that was even more beautiful/outrageous...a quick search would suggest it's not F&F or Saoutchik either, anyone?

The "awesomely bonkers" one does not appear to possess any front brakes, and I assume it has cable operated drums at the rear. I can imagine the owner is the sort of chap who flies spitfires under low bridges for fun, furiously smokes capstan full-strength, and is sustained by a diet of vintage port and red meat. Marvellous!

This is a 1905 Darracq, 25,422cc, four iron two cylinder blocks, alloy crankcase, Single camshaft operating overhead valves by pushrods. Power 250Bhp est.

The brakes are indeed rear drum, 0-60mph 6-7 secons est.

It briefly held the world speed record at 108.5 Mph, recently restored and owned by Mark Walker

It's a shame that it's running silencers. You should hear it without!! I was stood next to it when the were (trying very hard) to start it at Silverstone. Mark Walker has the best selection of racers by far. they are just so cool. He helps his case by always driving them home after track action.

The third photo down is one of my favourite cars. It is a Piccard-Pictet (pre-WW1 Swiss car maker) with a war-surplus V8 aero engine installed. I have seen it racing several times, it goes well, looks beautiful and sounds fabulous.

Octane magazine had a few pages on this car in this months issue.

Its Bugatti Type 35B, chassis 4965-174, apparently the last one produced and finished second in the 1930 Monaco GP

We went to a car show back in 2007 and saw some great stuff. The Citroen might not look anything special next to the Jags, Bentleys and Astons, but there was something about it that just really drew me to it. The owner was a top bloke and let me have a sit in it...
