Buying a car with an engine conversion - insurance
Discussion
I am currently considering buying a car with a different engine in the car than original. If the dvla know about the conversion and the car is logged as now having this new engine. It also appears on the insurers info as having a different engine...Do I still need to state that the car has had an engine conversion?
Or is this for when the car has a differnet engine to what it is currently registered as having?
Thanks for your help in advance, and I oppologise for any speeling or non-sense making explanations.

If in doubt - always tell the insruance company - its your legal obligation and therefore if you don't, you pay that premium but not be insured.
I expect you will have to use a specialist insurance company. The mainstream (elephant, more than, direct line etc), will not touch you.
Basically a load of hassel, so unless its a modification that you are determined to have...

If the engine is different to the one that it came from the factory, regardless if declared on the v5 or not, you need to tell your insurance co.
If the engine has been replace but is the same then the engine no on the V5 needs to be updated but insurance wont need to know.
Thats like saying you need to tell your insurance that you have had the brake pads changed.

If I have a MK3 Golf 2.8 VR6, blow the engine, and replace it like-for-like with another 2.8 VR6, what do they care, it's STILL a 2.8 VR!
IF however I replace the blown engine with a 2.9 VR lump, then that is a deviation from standard, or if I switch from a dizzy engine to a coil pack one, then I'd declare it, as it is no longer standard.
