The wife declared yesterday that she wants rid of the landie as I seem to be using it more than her. And as I buy myself cars all the time its only fair that she gets a new car and I buy the landie off her. Even though I bought it in the first place! Women eh.
So the criteria. It must be some kind of 1960s classic (think driving along to mat munroe) that is cheap to run and maintain, convertables will be considered but a tin top is prefered. It can't be a big V8, nitro, turbo, sc thing as she has only been driving for 2 years. Budget is about 3K.

Classic Mini or derivative. Riley Elf, Austin 1100 type of thing.So the criteria. It's going to have to be British if you want easy parts availability. An MG B will rust more slowly than a midget will and a GT is a good shout - very easy to maintain (grease stub axles once a month, £100 to upgrade to electronic ignition and check oil and water as per any other car. And watch for rust!)
Nothing wrong with a Stag, even the V8 is not particularly daft in those lovely cars.
Triumph GT6 perhaps - 2.5 litre straight six, looks lovely, easy access to engine and suspension through forward tilting bonnet.
There's some very stylish French and Italian convertibles around, but you'll struggle to find something suitable at that budget and they're a pain to find bits for.
