Sorry, bit of a rant here...
I am currently selling my car, and the amount of people calling up and saying 'what sort of price are we talking for cash' - now I like my bargins like everyone, however, I'm not a garage, trader etc.. I class bank drafts \ cheque \ cash & transfers once all cleared as cash..unless these callers think I need to hide the money?

Thing is, many a self employed tradesman will take cash for his car when selling it, rather than a cheque as putting a decent size cheque in his account will prompt them to ask what it is in relation to, or set the Revenue sniffing. And he cannot say he's sold his car, cos he already told them that as the explanation for all that cash he banked the day before! 
The black economy is huge stil in the UK and potentialy getting bigger in the economic climate we now have.
BTW there is a lot of funny money out there in circulation too. A friend who sells and fixes a few cars now asks anyone he doesn't "know" who offers to pay in cash to pay him in Euros!
The straighforward ones dont worry too much about going and excanging it for foreign currency, but it weens out most with fake notes.
Although there are of course fake Euros out there.

I understand that, however, whoever buys my car and wants to pay cash can come to my bank or any bank they bank with and I'll open an account, which they can deposit into..that way the bank takes the risk of forged notes etc.The black economy is huge stil in the UK and potentialy getting bigger in the economic climate we now have.

I'm not sure why people get so upset at daft offers. At least they usually get straight to the point and you can just say no.
It's the frikkin idiots who seem genuinely interested, you spend time cleaning the car for a viewing, they tip up and spend 2 hours going over the car with a fine tooth comb then make a totally insulting offer. They're the cretins who need nuking from orbit imho.
To answer the OP I agree it also makes me smile when they say best price for cash...

I dont mind people asking if I'm open to offers (almost every one selling a car is) and I dont mind some one making an offer (even if it might be a bit cheeky)

I was selling my wife's car cheaply and had some muppet drive 3 hrs to see it, looked at it for about an hour, couldn't fault it, then offered me £1000 less than the asking.
I said no, he said its all he had.
Shame you didn't tell me that before you set out and save us both some feckin time then.

was the car priced at £1,050...I said no, he said its all he had.

If it was up for say 12k, then that would be a reasonable offer no? you'd price a car expecting around 10- 15% less?

It's common place to knock off 10% as selling tactic, trade expect at least 20% off, so yeah every first offer I'd make would be at least 10% under any asking price.
