Rav 4 alternatives?

with the impending arrival of Chewitt jnr and our "masquerading as a horse" dog my O/H needs a different car.
she likes Freelanders.....

I'm saying how nice Rav 4's are


any alternatives - up to 6000 earth pounds to spend and this will carry my 3 most prized "items" so an MX5 is right out

The freelander boots are pretty small, so are rav4 boots.

You may be better off looking at an estate.

What dog are you trying to fit in?

he's a Weimaraner not normally really big - but I thing he sleeps in a gro-bag !

he can stand with his paws on my shoulders and I'm just over 6ft

Rav4 is a good choice, very reliable and reasonably car-esque to drive as well. CR-V is a good option too, I took one in px once with 270,000 miles on it and it drove tight as adrum.

Avoid the Freelander like a dose of the clap.

Not really a RAV4 competitor but what about an Audi Allroad? Bit bigger so you will fit more in.

Nissan X-trail is a good option, get the 2.2 diesel SVE version or 2.5 petrol, lots of toys, sat nav, electric leather seats, large sunroof, climate control, large airy cabin and decent boot for prams and associated junk, auto 4x4 mode.

Gives a decent, actually, excellent on road ride and very comfortable as a passenger. They should be in the 6K or so range, lots of car for the money. They are known to have a turbo issue on models before 2005, so ensure that the ECU has been updated and/or turbo replaced under warranty on the devil fuel models.

Why would you need a 4x4 type car to transport a child and a big dog?

Would an Octavia estate sized car not be better, a bigger boot for Fido to recline in, if he can stand up? Also, when he gets old it the lower boot lip will be easier for him to jump in and out. I'd have thought burning you £6k would be a better bet than a Freelander. If it must be a soft roader, a CRV or RAV4 would shirley be the best bet.

Mrs C wants a soft roader.........so estates are out I already have an A6 avant - she thinks 2 estates is wrong. Woman logic maybe but then it works as a foil against my man logic.....
