"un-refurbishable"?

I'm wondering about wheel refurbishments vs getting new ones, vs buying shoddy looking (but good really) ones off ebay and having them refurbed. Wondering how bad a set I could get before they are "too broken".

What's the worst set you've had refurbed??

ETA: Obviously broken in half is out of the window!!

General corrosion should be ok - a decent place will shot blast them first. Kerb damage - can incur an extra charge if it's really bad - some damage can be filled/welded.

I recently had my wheels refurbed and they look great - all (previous owner inflicted) kerb damage is gone and there was a small crack on the inside welded - cost an extra 25 quid.

I got a fairly badly damaged wheel refurbed at Ace Performance Cars in Carnwath, Scotland. The rim was either torn or folded back over half the circumference, and there was a fairly noticeable dent in the wheel itself. £250 and it was good as new, totally balanced, the lot.

Sounds pricey, but at a replacement cost of £600+ for the wheel it was the lesser of two evils.
