I got myself hitched on Saturday and REALLY wanted a Lambo to go to the curch in but unfortunately couldn't justify spending 'her' money. On the plus side, the new Mrs Jonboy very kindly got me a track day in an Aston V8, Ferrari 360 and Lambo Gallardo somewhere in shropshire.

I haven't really read through all the blurb in the pack they sent through yet (been a tad 'busy' being married biggrin) so has anyone had any experience with things like this? Should I expect an awesome day in gorgeous cars or will I be limited to 3,000rpm all the way round and not allowed to lose the traction control?!

I drove a cayman, F430 and formula renault at thruxton and they were very good. They quickly suss your driving and let you drive at a speed according to it. Best bit was the formula renault single seater as I had no one to tell me what to do so I just went balls out lapping everyone as I'm a driving god wink

But yeah, good fun... if it's anything like the one I did you'll enjoy it. They don't expect people to pay top money to potter around. Just have a good open attitude and listen/respond to what they say and they'll have more confidence in letting you up the speed.

I did a similar experience at Thruxton;

Classroom/DVD training for 20 mins, on track/corner lines, car balance theory and safety briefing.

Get driven round 3 laps in a Mazda MPS, to show you the racing lines braking points etc, starting off slowly then building speed.

Then into a Porsche Cayman for the first drive. The instructor was encouraging me to push much harder.

Next into an old Ferrari 355, which was LHD!? luckily I've driven loads of LHD vehicles around France so I wasn't too fazed but think this would be an issue for lots of people. Again encouraged to drive fast. No-one ever mentioned not reving too high.

Thirdly into a single seater formula renault, this was awesome, revs were limited to 4500 but being low down in an open cockpit with soo much grip in the corners was something else. Managed to hit the limiter on the straight, which I was told is about 110mph.

Really good experience and for me I found they let me push it beyond where I was totally comfortable - considering you're in an unknown car on an unknown track.

Also went out for a flying lap with one of the instructors and the guy was all over the place, on and off track! Certainly didn't bother with the racing line!

Was your formula renaults gearbox knackered? Mine had obviously had a hard life. Ruined the in car video as I'm blatting along then into a corner, down the box CRUNNCHHH! I had hoped they would be in better condition. But all in all a good day.

No yazza, the gearbox seemed ok no crunches.

But the 355 had seen better days!
