quick car tax question

taxed the car by phone can i drive without a tax disc showing but awaiting it arriving? mot and insurance all fine.

I could be wrong but I think you need to do it 5 days before the old one ran out.

This then allows you to drive after it expires while waiting for the new one.

I think you get 5 working days when buying online or over the phone so you should be ok. Best check the DVLA site to be sure though as it's been a while since I last enquired about this.

Its an offence to display an incorrect or out of date tax disc and obviously no tax disc at all is just a bad.

If the police spot you, they wont be happy and will probably issue a £60 fine. Should have gone to the Post Office.

You can renew your tax any day from the fifth day of the month.

If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.

The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.
