Quick question -

I know the general PH consensus is "Declare every mod" but if you decided that you wanted a sticker on the boot/window of your car, would you bother telling your insurance company?

If you were to later have an accident or get your car stolen/damaged, would Insurance Company have a "get out" if you didn’t declare a sticker? i.e.

"But sir, your car was keyed because you have a PH sticker that an environ-mentalist might have taken offence to, so we will not pay out" (etc.)

Whats your thoughts?

Do people declare those Car dealership stickers that adorn lots of rear windows? I'm guessing the answer is probably no.

If a policyholder advised me they had put a sticker on their car i'd advise it wouldnt be noted, plus its very difficult for an insurer to throw out a claim they would need a damn good reason meaning the mods would have to be pretty extensive and not declared.
The closest thing i can think with regards to telling your insurer about stickers is that some companies pay people to have their logo stickered along the side of the car (my local radio station does it), aslong as the company is aware the insurer wont pay for any damage to the stickers and the policyholder isnt subject to T+C's like they have to drive through certain areas or park the car in high profile places etc it would be usually ok to cover this (but it would be noted on the policy) how ever i think imay have strayed from the original question if its a PH sticker i would say no not to declare it

What about changing for example a OEM grill from chrome to black or chrome exhaust tips to black exhaust tips?

I've definitely seen on several policies that I've had over the years stuff about stickers or somesuch "that indicate high performance whether real or not" - I cannot remember the exact wording. It read very much to me that they were specifically meaning people that put GTi badges on 1.2Ls and suchlike. I guess it says something about the mentality of the owner and the uses the car is likely to be put to.

So big Mustang-stylee stripes, massive GTi logos etc - I'd say that sort of thing they would be interested in - IMO that is totally relevant to the insurer and their percieved risk. A PH/Caravan Club/Jesus fish etc - definitely not.

I'd assume it was only worth declaring if it was effectively miss badging your car up a model or two otherwise it is just a sticker and not worth mentioning.

I for one always pull over and call the insurance co the moment I eat one of the bath-oliver biscuits out of the packet I keep in the glovebox; you just can't be too careful...

I've heard some insurers load premiums by up to 25% for M25 ring stickers.

I have "Scrappage scheme survivor" on the back of my Mondeo hack. Would that qualify for a discount on the premium?

I have one of them to throw on my van. And one that reads "I say, Ding Dong!"

Interesting question, considering those stickers informing people what brand of stereo equipment can be found in your boot; and that old 'more attractive to thieves' excuse trotted out every time someone questions the actions of our beloved insurance gods.

If I badge an m3 as a 318i and slapped steel wheels on it would my premium go down? Should I let them know I filled up with super instead of regular?

If I ever bin my car, the first thing that I'll do (as long as I'm not dead) is grab the PH sticker from the rear screen, and eat/hide/burn it. I've read the 10PS fiasco!
