Auto luxobarge on a £1k ish budget?

The above is what I would like, the engine cant be more than 2.5 ltr other than that my only requirement is that it will be reliable and last for a year, then I'll be moving it on.

Is there anything out there that fits the bill?

Any suggestions, help or alternative suggestions welcome.

Omega 2.5 V6. Cheap as chips, just as luxo as the Beemers and Mercs, and a darn sight cheaper to run. Make sure it's an Elite with the wafty suspension.

Probably not everyone's cuppa tea, but the Vauxhall Omega 2.5TD. You can get one for pennies, well 6-800, these days and in diesel guise (thanks to the BMW unit) are rather robust. Though the V6 is rather nice too.

Good call. My brother has just picked up a 2.5 auto Omega, v tidy, all the toys, goes like a good 'un and makes a very pleasant sound £800.

The Omega is definately worth further investigation, had forgotten they existed tbh!!

The Alfa 166 is oh so tempting, I would in a flash but would probably spend the year living in a constant state of paranoia.

A cheap 166 is like a bi-polar page three girl, superb fun at times, other times you'd worry when she went near the scissors...

I live in Ireland, thanks to the green party and incompetent government annual road tax is astronomical. A 2.5ltr is my limit, would cost about €800 a year to tax.

I tried the Omega and found it to be a dog , the 2.5 bmw diesel dosent give great mpg and the 2.0/2.2 needs a cambelt and tensioner change eve3ry 40k because they fked up !

Now have a saab 900 and have total faith in it , and the seats are leagues ahead of the omegas !

I'll add another vote for the Omega, I ran a 2.5 CDX for a while as a company car and really liked it.
If you're on a budget though, make sure that the manifolds have either been replaced or are in good condition, if they start to fail the ticking will drive you mad and it was an 800 quid a side, engine out job to replace them.

Except the 190E is starting to go classic so a £1K one could be a rust bucket scrapper.
