What car with a dose of practicality?

Due to the arrival of an incoming baby sometime soonish, will need to get rid of the Boxster. Budget somewhere between £15k - £20K.

Got a shortlist, but wouldn't mind making it shorter - ideally to a list of one

Skoda Yeti - probably ex demo - 1.2 DSG
Golf GTi - Mk5, DSG and 5 door
Audi S4 - though could do without the running costs, having come from a Boxster.
BMW 123d 5 door auto
Mazda3 MPS

Any other thoughts?

Octavia VRS?

£15-20K will get you a very tidy one (ie new). Other than that, a Mk5 GTI would be great.

With my head, the 123D, although I am rather intrigued to find out why everyone's raving about the Yeti.

I think they do a Leon Cupra R in 4 door (they do look good in silver)and possibly the Focus ST??? Avoid 2 doors as it really is a pain getting kids into the back. Best car we had was a Mazda 5 based on the C-Max platform as it had sliding rear doors allowing you to get baby seats etc in without wrestling with an open door and they do a Sport(ish) version.

You'll be amazed at how much space pushchairs take up and how nice it is to have reasonably high seats to put bab seats onto.

Mazda 6 MPS could be a better shout than a Mazda 3. 4wd instead of scrabble as well, they are cheap as chips too.

Or the Fabia vRS estate is interesting. Compact, yet a 480 litre boot (more than the Yeti), 180bhp 1.4 TSI and DSG gearbox. Drivethedeal price is about £14800.

my sister had one of those mazda's- great family bus, the sliding door was a godsend.... but beware- her car had a manufacturing fault that caused the sliding door to open itself while on the motorway! A bit concerning, mazda admitted the fault and fixed it foc, but it put her right off the car. No idea if its an isolated problem or a more widespread one

Nah, it's just going from a Boxster to a 1.2 Yeti would seem a little drastic IMO. Even more so if it's just to gain an extra seat. Although I don't mind the Yeti, I suspect it would seem much the same as having balls chopped off if you've just come from a 2 seat sports car.
