Help which mx5?!

Currently driving a Golf GTI with quite a few mods but am looking for a change and want a RWD car. Have had some experience driving a Boxster S but only during the summer and some track day events in a Westfield and 911 etc. I was looking to buy a Z4M Coupe but i feel i need to learn more before i jump up to something with so much power! So i think an Mx5 for a year or two would be perfect? I would put around 10k into it and a little more if needed. Which model is best? I like the look of all of them,

If it's a Z4M you want get one. It's not as if it's some kind of untameable beast. No point buying a stop gap car in my opinion as you'll just want out of it very soon and will overall end up spending more.

You've already got some experience. Do a couple of track days with it once you get it if you want more.

I'd agree with Bist0- go for the Z4m if that's what you want- sounds like you'd be sensible and would treat the car with respect. I think with any modern, powerful car, they tend to bite only when you provoke them- don't do anything stupid, learn how the car behaves gradually, and find a safe place to explore it's limits- such as a track day. I think you'll find it a rewarding experience. I was certainly careful when I went from a Golf GTI to my 911- but soon learnt that the car is way more capable than I am!

On the other hand, i wouldn't mind a Mk1 MX5 for a bit of fun but it would need some more power!

You can get a Boxster for that sort of cash. Hell, the high mileage abused Boxsters are available from about £6k now.

Or go big and get a TVR Chimera....

I think some of the better MX5s are the older ones - just pure simple fun and available for about 2 grand.

If you've got 10K, then spend 9K on the car and 1K on driving courses. You get used to more power very quickly, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the help guys, guess if its what i want i should just go for it and then learn to know its limits! Im sure it wont bite unless im stupid! Really want to get out and do some more track work. Im leaning more towards the coupe! But would still love an Mx5!
