Hole in a headlamp - MOT fail?

Hi all, car is booked in for MOT tomorrow, and this morning a small stone has gone through and created a finger nail sized hole in the off side headlamp. It seems to not hurt the beam etc, but I'm presuming it's a fail? I checked the MOT testers manual and it is unclear as to whether this will fail. Obviously, I'd like to obtain one myself and change it, so would like to cancel the MOT to avoid a guaranteed re-test if it will fail.

I think it's if the hole is in line with the beam or something like that. Not 100% though.

mine has a hole in (although it's probs only about 2mm in diameter) and passed it's MOT in feb. i take it to a rather stringent tester because i want any problems to be found.

As far as I know, it is a fail, because it allows the inside to become fogged up.

Old car of mine had a hole, MOT tester just used some clear bathroom silicone sealer on it and then passed it.

I had a Fiesta that passed 4 MoTs with a hole in a headlamp glass. Shouldn't be a problem in that position. I filled mine with clear bathroom sealant to prevent moisture etc getting in.

I would have thought it would depend on the tester, its pretty out of the way of the main part of the lens, sealing with clear silicone or similar may help....

Only a fail if the hole is distorting the beam pattern as seen on the headlamp tester. And even then the fail is for an incorrect image, not a holed lense

Thanks for all the responses guys. I think i'll get some silicone in it and get it run through an MOT, see what they make of it
