stuck brake piston?

well im trying to refurbish my sierra brake calipers for my kitcar.

the rears came out fine by unscrewing them.

the left hand front flew out with the use of a foot pump.

but the right hand one won't come out, it will move back in fine, but it won't come back out with the pressure of a foot pump.

i think it might be its geting caught on the dust boot which was damaged, i have tryed removing it but its just ripped around, leaving the bit that goes under the piston.


so any ideas on how to get it out? or is it time to get another caliper?

Can you not pump it out using the brake hydraulics? Or is that what you meant by foot pump?

ETA, just realised these probably aren't still attached to a car are they? I guess you might want to take as much of the seal out as you can, and keep applying some penetrating fluid as you pump the piston in and out.

no they are no longer on the car.

and ive been using a cone fitting on a double foot pump,wedged into the caliper.

but its just holding the pressure, then leaking out wihout the piston moving at all.

Calipers are usually in 2 halves - can you not take it apart?

I bought a new caliper for my project car recently and found that it was leaking and whoever assembled it at the factory had caught the rubber seal down the side of the piston so I had to disassemble the caliper to release it.

get someone to roar an airline on it..shove some wood in the gap as they come out fairly fierce
