Am I the only one that thinks a grand for that level of job is not actually a bad deal? The difference to the car is night and day and, although I stand to be corrected, if the owner was to sell it I suspect it would be an easier sale and one where he would recoup almost, if not, all his outlay.

It's halfway between a wash and a restoration. On a solid but slightly tired car it would appear to be not bad at all. The leather restoration would take up a fair chunk alone if you went to a specialist.
Willing to bet it's added significantly more than the cost to the retail value if the owner were selling. Plus it'd be 10 times easier to shift.

I definitely agree with you. I think for a car like that, over £1000 could be added to the price / realisationJustayellowbadge said:

That was part of my thoughts. Spoke to a guy who had had his Chim re-trimmed a year or two back and it cost them not far shy of £3k iirc. Now that was a fantastic job and looked the Mutts, but it you could get 80% of the result, and a bit of spit and polish on the bodywork, for 1/3 the price...Can't help but be reminded of the 'I saw you coming' sketch on Harry and Paul.
On an old thing like this I can't see the point of detailing at all, all it will do surely is just show up every ding dent and stonechip very clearly so you'll need to respray it anyway.
So in the end you've paid 1000 quid, to determine you need a respray, so the only permanent benefit you'll get is the fact that someone hovered the interior, which you could do in around 25 minutes with a vax that would cost 20 quid to hire...
