Forgot to lock the car.. and..

I must have forgotten to lock the car last night, remember running to the front door abandoning the GF to get out on her own, as it was pissing down .. in the middle of the night, someone went for a rummage

A pair of Aldo's finest from the boot, a bag, some tools, mountings for my bike rack (MOST annoying) an old iPod Nano, and an eBay iPhone charger.

Scenes of crime "may" come to have a look, but I doubt there's any point.

This is despite being behind on a private driveway with PIR lights, 8ft electric gates and a surrounding wall.

Or did you lock it....prog on BBC1 the other night showed crims using some sort of jammer and then coming back at stupid O'Clock to have a rummage in your open car. (Not you actual car but you know what I mean )

That sucks - Especially as I have, these days, a bad habit of leaving my car unlocked. Or maybe it's my 2 year old playing with the key.

On the other hand, I have:

• Left the car unlocked
• Left the car unlocked with the windows open
• Left the car unlocked with the windows open and the keys in the ignition - on the main road
• Left the car unlocked with the drivers door open and the keys in the ignition - on the main road (No, I don't know how I left the door open too
• And the piece de resistance - leaving the engine running, getting out and walking 50 yards through the work carpark before I realised (Only once though).

Funnily enough I did have a problem unlocking the car in a car park the other day ..

It could well have been the car next to mine which was full of 433MHz transmission equipment

Or it could have been thieves with a jammer trying it out!

My dad that once with an old Ford Falcon that was a silky straight six - he thought it was funny that our car was the only one not covered in frost in the morning...

This has happened to a friend of mine 2 months back - bicycle nicked. Parked in a quiet village overnight too.

Possibly be much worse if one forgot to lock the house and went to work. Bet that's happened to some

In my defence, it was a Rover 200 (the rounded one - like that makes any difference....) - so my subconcious might have been thinking that someone might do me a favour and nick it...

It was, however, the 220sdi (my first over-100bhp car) which sounded, usually, like a tractor so God knows what I was thinking/doing.

It's a dual use band, so also used for remote controls, alarms etc

My dad did that more recently with a new Focus. Keyless entry+ stop/start button meant he walked off and left it near the station. He got a phone call from my brother an hour later asking why....The car had been clever enough to notice it was dark and turn its lights on as well.

I was workign in a bar at the time.
Rode down on my motorbike, parked it up under a street lamp ina carpark, went to work @ 8, came back at 1 to realise i'd left my keys in the ignition of the bike.
Very lucky it was'nt knicked!

I accidentally left my car open once.

Came downstairs to find a tramp sitting in the drivers seat having a snooze, his can of Special Brew dripping over the centre console.

Took ages to get rid of the smell.

I have accidental left my car unlocked quite a lot with no problems whatsoever. The bds decided to steal stuff at a time where it was actually locked... broken window and a stolen iPod Touch is not fun.

My parents have suddenly developed a habit of doing this with only one of the cars... The Audi is always locked, the Renault is always locked but the Peugeot, which gives away it's unlocked status with the mirrors still being out continuously gets left open...

I park on the street outside my apartment and have issues with my car being unlocked. It was driving me insane because it was happening so often. I then discovered that because the unlock button stands proud on my key when I sit down with it in my pocket it gets pressed. Combine this with the range of the key being several hundred feet my car could be unlocked any where up to a block away. The worst part is that when it unlocks it turns the head lights on and interior lights as if to advertise its now unlocked state.

We have several hundred cars with the same design key in my company so at a meeting I went around the car park checking other cars and there were many that were unlocked....... Genius car designers.

I had a couple of similar incidents in my old fiesta:

- One morning, looking for the car keys to go to the shops...spent about an hour turning the house upside down. Ended up thinking "i'll check the car to make sure i havn't left them there"...Walk outside my house and see my keys dangling from the driver's door lock (not remote central locking)!! Didn't help that I'd also left about £2k's-worth of guitar equipment in the boot too.

How everything didn't go walkabout including the car is a mystery...

- One evening, went to my girlfriend's after work and went to say hello before collecting stuff from the car. never got round to bringing everything in and had left the car unlocked. got up for work again in the morning and somebody had gone through everything in there. they took the satnav and 2 boxes of cigs. decided to leave the box of old bank statements and the car reg docs thankfully as they were hiding under the back seats!


Needless to say, since I've had the alfa I've been a lot more cautious with my locking procedures...in fact, it seems to sense my caution and decides sometimes to not even let ME in....so i guess a robber would also have the same problem
