Recommend an underbody seal....

In the past i have used cheapo black schultz stuff (ive got an compressor and airline in my workshop) but with the XJS i want to use the best stuff possible.

The old man swears by clear waxoyl, im temped to go with the clear root as i've got nothing to hide, the floorpan is (shock, horror) rock solid and never been welded.

Any thoughts?

I think Shutz looks nicer and is harder that waxoyl, but i went belt and braces and did both waxoyl brush on underseal on top of Shutz i like the way you can work it into the seams with a brush

You may as well piss under the car as put clear waxoyl on. It's pointless, it washes off after a few months.

Dinitrol 4941 is good stuff, put it on the arches of my old Astra, was perfect after 40k of the tyres scooting dirt and water straight on to it. http://www.dinitrol.co.uk/rust_prevention_waxes_an...

Think he is talking about Waxoyl underbody sealant which is a brush on product and is black not the clear stuff you pump in cavaties

I'm curious, how much prep do you need to do before an underbody seal?

My girlfriends KA could probably do with it, but it's done 70k now and is starting to rust in places.

im not a fan of anything thick that hides stuff , it can all look tidy and rust free and by the time you spot a scab its too late as the thick goop covered it

anyone know a garage that does waxoil? need to get my jap import protected

This. My car is very tidy underneath and has nothing to hide, therefore the ide of covering it in goop seems a bit of a shame, rather use something clear so when i come to sell it any potential buyers will be able to see it isn't a pear.

Just make sure to wear a mask when brushing or spraying on waxoyl. The fumes can make you feel a bit odd for a few days after if you dont.

I'm giving Rustmaster's "own blend" (Mil spec 0001 they call it) a go this weekend - if it works for US Military vehicles in the UK, I'm hoping it's OK for an MX5.

Can be used both as cavity and underbody wax, made in same factory as Dinitrol, which I was planning to use, but much more economical.

Need to do my Land Rover and can offer a drive in an Ultima GTR and/or bottles of Vodka I've amassed (clients give them to me but I don't drink the stuff) for exchange

How my car looks after using the method I described earlier in the thread , why whats yours ??

Trying to add something useful rather that saying i sprayed a lot of something around my snotter and it didnt fall apart immediately and showing that a properly undersealed car doesnt have to hide anything nor does it look like black gloop everywhere , it is however well protected which i think is what the OP is trying to achieve
