Diesel Barge £5-7k

Oh mighty PH collective....

A change of job is requiring me to ditch the S2000 (possibly) and get something more frugal, comfy, loaded with as many toys as possible, carrying more people, yet be still pretty nippy.

Ideally not too high a miler (under 70k).

My ideal car, would be a Mondeo ST155 TDCi, but I can't seem to find one in the blue I like without galactic miles or way over budget.

Help!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a Passat Tdi. Good, comfy, Air Con, Climate Control, electric windows, heated mirrors etc.....

I had one, not terribly economical and not terribly quick given the size of the engine - 181BHP from 3 litres?

Also, i think they're all autos - and they're known to give trouble and are hens teeth out of scrap yards.

If you can live with the risk of gearbox trouble - and i couldnt - then they're something different.

I like the Passat, just not sure on the style of the interior.

Agreed, I've got the 130 engine in my Bora and recently drove from Manchester to Oxford with three people and the car loaded to the nines with heavy camping equipment I still managed 57mpg, myself with just an over night bag and I've seen a steady 65mpg but its easy to get bored doing high mpg.

Depending on the age of car you're looking at you'll find loads of MK4 Golfs and Bora's with either the 150/130 in your price range and their more roomy than you'd think.

I had a Signum until recently, admittedly the 2.2dti, however it wasnt in the same league my old 530d, not even close

The Accord engine is amazingly quiet for a diesel.

Find a decent independent, and no. My e60 averages about £200.00 a go.
