urgent! selling a car

hi guys i am currently trying to sell a car the potential buyer is asking for v5 serial is this necessary for a hpi report ?
i have given the chassis number i thought this was plenty.

Make model and reg are all that's required to do an HPI check. Probably asked for your chassis number to confirm the HPI report he already has or he's made a clone and it's the last you'll hear from him again.

DVLA are recommending checking the V5C serial number against the list of stolen numbers from the big robbery a few years back.

You do need a number off the v5 or an MOT test certificate number to check its MOT history and there are a number of stolen certificates so they may want to check either of those things.

Or clone your car.

You can do an additional check on HPI using the V5 serial number to check whether that is the correct V5 document issued by DVLA so he is checking your car/documentation is correct and not cloned etc etc

Explain your concerns to the guy and that you would be more than willing for him to do these checks when he comes and views the car

Then he knows it's genuine and can run the checks and you retain control over the serial number

In order for the HPI guarantee to be valid, the buyer *must* supply HPI with the V5 serial number before the car is sold.
