Paranoid about leaving your car in public?

Perhaps this is an illness of mine, but does anyone else stress when they leave their car parked on the road?
Even in relatively good areas, I can’t relax for fear of some scrote keying their initials into my paint work. As you can imagine it puts me off visiting friends and what not, definitely so in deprived areas in the arse end of Liverpool. I can do empty corners of car parks, but find terraced streets are the worst.
I don’t think vandalism is limited to nice cars though. Staying at a friend’s one night (in a decent area) I parked behind an Aston Martin Vantage convertible and CLS AMG, my other friend who too was visiting (and new to the area) had parked his Corsa behind my ST220. Come the morning, someone had kicked his wing mirrors off and ran over his car. If it was jealously, surely they would have gone for the Aston Martin? Either way, inexcusable.
One friends theory is that if you park an expensive car in a s
t area it won’t get touched, because the scrotes think your some sort of gangster who will hunt them down. Strangely enough, in my experience, this has turned out to be true.
I have had my VXR8 a month now, and have yet to leave it in public – arriving at friends, I’m always asked “why are you in the Mondeo?”.

Was always wary about leaving the Ferrari ANYWHERE in public in the UK. Sh!t hole of a place.
No such problems in Vienna, however. Much more civilised place all around.
Although I did have my number plates stolen here in a district called Leopold. They did not even leave a minor scratch - just took the number plates very carefully off.

I have no quarms leaving the Mondeo in the majority of the places I have visited on the continent, I wouldn't even fret about locking it sometimes.
I worry more about car-parks - I always think someone's going to shove a door into it or scrape it while parking. I'm terrible for agonising over where to park then moving it somewhere else!
I'm amazed how some people aren't bothered though - I was in Birmingham with a colleague who has a pretty new BMW630 (his own car, not a company one) and he parked it in the tightest imaginable on-street parking space in a pretty isolated commercial area rather than pay a few quid for an overnight car-park.

I have found that the rarer the car, the less likely it is to get damaged. And the more 'boy racer' and common something is, the more people want to damage it. I have always been concerned about leaving my pride and joy on the street, but it was my old trackday supra which was vandalised when left on the street - wing mirror kickedoff and front wing kicked in. There was a new 911 Turbo a few cars up so nothing to do with direct envy. Strange...

I would be utterly pissed off if I came back to find a big dent in my car, it happened to my old focus, but I dont really worry about where I park.
I generally avoid parking next to st box or battered cars, but I wouldn't panic if I had to. I rarely ever go to areas where I would have to worry about my car being stolen.

I won't park near scratched or banged up cars (gives me the impression the driver doesn't give a st about their car, why would they care about damaging somebody else's car?) and I don't like parking in tight places where door dings might happen. I deliberately park in the far corner of car parks in order to remain as far from other cars as possible, and will happily drive a few floors higher in a multistory if it ensures my peace of mind.
I'm a pretty good parker though, and if I have to park somewhere and there really is no other option, I'll park amongst other cars and grit my teeth.

Can't be bothered; worrying about it would drive me crazy. Had in interesting incident this week though. Was parked on the street outside a resto I was eating in and the waiter came up with a worried look and said" you might want to go outside".
What happened was that , two cars behind, a young chap was teaching his GF to drive. (auto of course). She got in the car, shot forward slamming into the car in front, throwing it forward. It had it wheels facing out and missed my car by the depth of a postage stamp. I could not get my pinkie between the cars. Had 4000Km on my 3RS. Some days you get lucky, though someone has already dinged my door slightly.

You must be lucky enough to have a car that scousers wouldn't be seen dead nicking. Congrats, apparently you have the ONLY car they wouldn't touch
