Cars Bad in Photos - Good in the Flesh

It often happens that even the best photos cannot do justice to a car. Recent cases of this IMO have been the Panamera(970); the new Z4; New Ford Taurus; and the XJ. All look far more appealing in person. Some however, such as the XF, are just as boring as they appear on paper. What are some of your recent finds for better or worse?

There's a few in London which I see on the way to work. I think people expected another 456GT (which was pretty), but instead got a rather brutish, good looking GT. Its a very handsome car, but I'm not sure it met expectation. For me it has lovely cues from the 1960's Ferraris, which I really like.

Certain cars' shapes either age well or come into vogue years later. The XJS, IMO, while not popular in its day, is thought of as artistic by many now. The last model XK, while a less advanced car than the current one, has a shape that seems timeless, much like the original E-Type. All IMO.

True. This is why I liked the Bangle BMWs, 5 series in particular. It was bold and now look like they will age well. The older XK is a really good looking motor car. The new one seems fussy compared, although I still like it alot.

I am torn between the two. I like most things about the new XK, but the old one won't leave me alone. My Bangleized Z4 was designed ahead of its time IMO. I think it is more acceptable now than when it was born.

There's a 3.0d new XJ near where I live and the front and side profile is great. Especially the side. However, the back is a mess, its very awkward and I seems like an afterthought.

Never looks that appealing in photos. Then, in 'real life', they look so good. I think a lot of it is down to seeing cars in comparison to other things; photos always make the Elise look bigger than it is, which doesn't help.

Porsche 928's. In photos i think they can look very awkward but in the flesh they just look so "right", maybe not beautiful but still handsome.

Although those wheels on the Panamera don't look good in the flesh or in a picture.

I agree though, the Panamera is much better looking in the flesh - very wheel and colour dependant though.

I disagree. I thought the Brera was a huge let down.
