Evening all
Firstly; i posted a while back about looking into tvr ownership and got scared off by the running costs so sorry if this looks like im just dreaming (honestly im not)
Following several factors: im going to have to part ways with my beloved 205gti
im now in a position where im not entirely sure what to buy/where to go with it. below are a list of qualities i would like to have in the next car, any suggestions/pointers or help would be welcomed.
Performance: not planning on tearing around, but i like driving cars that have a reasonable power reserve (that was the appeal of the tvr's), i would prefer a manual gearbox, rwd and awd would be preferred or a awsome handling fwd (baring in mind ill compare it to a 205gti). the phrase "a drivers car" sort of sums it up, can be driven properly when trying but then can be a relaxed drive too.
I would like something with abit of a comfort on the interior, the 205pretty much was empty, was great but i missed just being able to just sit and cruise 300 miles and get out the other end shattered.
Age: something within about 10± ish years old, so its still good but hasnt began the rust journey
Price: again this is fairly flexible as i am looking to invest some savings in it. max probs about £12000ish
Rarity: if possible (this is only me being anal (sorry)) something that you dont see everyday would be loverly, just makes driving feel abit special.

If it's your first foray into RWD then MX-5 is the correct answer. Cheap, cheerful and will give you the insight you need into RWD. Plenty of tuning options available should you wish to go a bit quicker. Yes I realise you want a TVR but if you've never owned RWD before then a TVR might not be the best plan.

ive driven a fair few rwd's before, but yeh its a fair point, mx5's seem nice but abit of the small side, ill have a look into it though! Honda S2000 would tick all of those boxes.
Or, bit leftfield, but how about an MG ZT 260 - (The RWD Mustang engined one)
For a budget of £12K, you could get a Lotus Elise 111.
Or, for that money, I'd personally do for a Vauxhall Monaro. £10K would get you a 2005 5.7 V8, only thing is it would be thirsty.

From a very well regarded M specialist, and covered only 6k PA. One of the best cars I have ever owned - wish I had the space to keep one!
