Does windscreen insurance cover include scratches?

Damn those pesky automatic wipers!!

Got in the car this morning in a hurry, started it up and the wipers gave a couple of sweeps to clear the moisture on the screen. Heard a grinding noise and looked across to see a lovely shiny arc scratched into the screen on the passenger side.

Turns out a bit of grit had got caught in the wiper somehow.

Question is, does replacement cover usually include scratches as well as chips? Not been able to dig out insurance docs yet as I'm in the middle of a house move.

Also, any recommendations for trying to polish it out?
