Jaguar Plans New Sports Car Concept For Paris Show

It's just another 'teaser', so don't phone your dealer yet...

Jaguar has an annoying trick of teasing us with gorgeous new sporty car concepts that won't ever get built, and it seems we're all going to be played like fiddles again next month at the Paris motor show.

According to reports from JLR's owner Tata, (originally sourced by Autocar magazine's Indian franchise), Jaguar is 'setting phasers to stun' once again, this time by pulling the wraps off a new XK-sized design study.

They say the 'new XK' concept won't go into production, but has been cooked up to introduce a new styling direction for the marque, as well as being a showcase for Jaguar's forthcoming hybrid technology.

We've borrowed the magazine's rendering, and there are a few more details here which are interesting should you be minded to jump ship for a few moments.

Meanwhile, we'll take a minute to reprise some of the other Jaguar show concepts that we've enjoyed lusting after. Albeit (so far) in vain...

Sorry, but apart from the first rendering I think it looks about 10yrs out of date. Of course it'll never get built.

That is because the F type is 10 years old! the actual car won't be shown until Paris.

I saw the F type at their Browns Lane site when I was working there - looked and sounded fantastic - shame they didn't pursue it into some form of production.

I liked the C-XF which was an XF with a nod to the styling of the new XJ

This XK concept has got to be the teaser for the XE that's due in 2012.

Yep, at the time at least, but now the 'old school' style has been dropped. Shame we aren't going to be treated to a new 'F-Type'.

the article said:
a new XK-sized design study
like the XK180 then?

I thought the sports car (that Rajan Tata confirmed they are working on) was to slot in under the XK (on a shortended wheelbase platform), rather than XK-sized

The concept above looks somewhat like that Mazda concept in the previous story.

Simple google image search for Jag XE turned up these amongst others.

I'll take the bottom one please Jaguar. The top one looks a bit chavtastic.

I reckon Jaguar is on something of a role at the moment. Okay, the XK is quite old now but it still looks stunning; the new XJ looks superb in the flesh and they've created a sensible, relatively good value 4-door saloon that thinks its an Aston in the shape of the XF, so I wouldn't put a sports car past them. I think there's far more chance of it happening now than there was in the Ford era.

"New styling direction"? Jag's only just getting properly into the currect one! Methinks Autocar's effort's a bit heavy handed too.

Heavy-handed?

It's an absolute dogs dinner, but fortunately their efforts look nothing like reality...

The F type looks like a concept Jag I saw in Geneve in 1999 or 2000.

The F type was a concept Jag from 1999/2000. Two were produced. Perhaps you saw one of them?

Why does it remind me of an Exige?
Seems to be trying a bit too hard.
