Hi, I was with Direct line for about 4 years of driving, three of them I was building up my "named driver NCB" and asked if I could take these elsewhere, Igot told only if I had been a policy holder with them for a full term. So I sat out last years insurance paying what they wanted. This year I'm looking to go else where and now they are saying that I can only take the bonus I built up while the policy was in my name so I only have 1 year instead of like 4. I can understand if they only gave 2 in total or something but I feel I have been ripped off here as I kept with the company inorder to build up this NCB.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Just so you know the prices I'm talking about are £640 with Direct line with all my bonuses, £350 but swift cover with all years and £450 with swift cover with only the one year. That's almost a 25% markup because Direct Line misled me. I know it's not a lot for some people but to be it's £100 that's rightfully mine.

Please share any info/advice you have.

BTW I think I'm the only person on PH who is posting about insurance and it's not the price incomparison to last year that bothers me.

As far as I was aware the named driver no claims were for use JUST with direct line. In the same way that you can't use Tesco points at Sainsburys.

Sounds like you have been given some very wrong information.

Your only hope might be to take it a bit higher within Direct Line and see if you can get a direct match for the Swift quote due to being given the wrong information. Won't be easy mind.

I had 1NCB with Admiral as a named driver and my current insurers accepted it as a NCB.

All they required as proof was a renewal letter showing the no claims with my name written on it - job done

I know not all insurers will accept this but if you shop around you may find some that do.

Its the same with most insurers, company i work for offers named driver discounts but can only be used within the company, benefit with us though is we have sister companies they can be used with too.
Only problem is op even if you do get direct line to give you proof of your named drivers ncb your new insurer may not accept them as you werent the policyholder.
Best bet is to see if you can get them to match the other insurer as you may have been mis informed, however details and conditions like named driver discount is likely to be put in your policy booklet etc and you are expected read that.

I had the exact same thing happen to me with Direct Line. The named driver NCB isn't actually NCB its just a discount, which I knows seems very similar but that's the way it was explained to me by the woman on the phone.

Some insurers will accept it. Sky Insurance accepted it as NCB and gave me the full 4 years thumbup

Should have read the policy details, I'm pretty sure they even stated in the small print on the add that it wasn't proper NCB.

I remember talking to people when this first came out and pretty much everyone seemed to realised its not real NCB.
