To be fair the search function was out of order for a while....

If they are doing your head in, why not just avoid them?

I think they have their place, everyone has slightly different needs and suggestions are always welcome (except from 300bhp/tonne).

Far too many on GG though, needs to be a subforum.

It's a motoring forum, there's bound to be threads asking for advice on what car to buy.

To be fair it's pretty easy to avoid them, most people helpfully put the phrase "what car" somewhere in the thread title.

I agree that a sub-forum might be a good idea though.

I don't understand the objection.

Surely buying fast cars is kind of central to being a petrolhead? Without what car threads we'd just be left with excessive MX5 worship and the subject of nuking 335Ds from orbit.

They wouldn't get the traffic is they were moved though. I wouldn't go looking for them but if I see a thread title that I can contribute to I'll duck in and suggest something.

Rather than a sub-forum, how about a web application where you answer specific multiple-choice questions on your needs and the system suggests a car to you, and then a load of links to cars of that make/model in the classifieds.



You could make it always return the same answer, MX5

As a regular I just check in via my stuff, then what's new, so another forum as such wouldn't make any difference.

I find don't click on stuff that doesn't grab you a good way to go.

I'd like the option of hovering over a topic and seeing the first sentence though. I don't believe this is possible on this forum due to bandwidth problems(?)
