205 Gti or 106 xsi 16v??

I currently own both of these cars but due to going back to uni for a year I need to free up some funds so one of them has to go.

the 205 is a 1.9, one of the last of the pre-cats and generally in pretty good condition for its age. I ran it for 6 months through the winter with no trouble whatsoever.

The 106 is an xsi with a tuned gti 16v engine, putting out somewhere around 150bhp. I enjoy the 106 and it's very quick, 0-60 in about 7 secs, however due to the state of tune of the engine, it has a very lumpy idle, is borderline on antisocially loud and can be a bit annoying for town driving etc.

I love the 205 and it always provided me with a barrel of laughs, although it is not as quick as the 106. I'm thinking though that maybe keeping the 205, and going down the mi16 route, this would give it similar power to the 106 but it would be in standard form so have better driveability and be nicer for an everyday car.

What are peoples thoughts?

Ive got a 106 with a 16v engine fitted and I agree its a bit ASBO for everyday driving! Saying that its a great track car and suprises a lot of other cars.

The 205 gti is a classic hot hatch and still refined enough for everyday driving. I wouldnt be able to decide!!!!!

I rather like the idea of selling the 106 and picking up either a Mi16 or perhaps a 306 GTI-6/S16/xsara VTS - 2.0 16v lump.

106s dont do anything for me but a 205 is a true 80s hot hatch, all it needs is a bit of a modern twist; a new engine with either standalone or full factory ECU set up would provide a good power increase and reliability. Thinking about it having seen a Zsara VTS for £800 the other day that would make a perfect donor as you could have the brakes as well and still sell off the remains to get some ££ back.

Sell the 106, most likely you won't lose any money on the 205, which will be helpful when you come out of uni if you need some cash.

Sounds like everyone is thinking along the same lines as me!

In terms of money I think I'll do well with either, the 106 has cost me a grand including buying, 150 Bhp phase 1 106 should easily fetch around £1500, and the 205 I got at a bargain of £750 so happy days.

Think I'll keep the 205 and maybe see about a gti-6 or mi16 transplant. That said looking to go into stock hatch soon so the standard gti will probably keep me satisfied for road use anyway.
