Girls texting while driving

As I've stopped using the car for my commute (never ending roadworks in my home town) I do the M62 commute to Leeds by motorbike every day. This leaves me in a perfect position to see into cars - my car is far too low.

I see a lot of people on the phone - usually builders (or associated trades) - which doesn't bother me, but I am getting totally blown away by the number of women (never spotted a bloke doing this) I see texting while driving. I'm seeing several a day - 3 on the way home yesterday. Can't women stop themselves from doing this? Or is it part of their "multitasking" brain functionality that they can do this and still drive?

Anyone else spotted this trend?

Noticed this a lot since i started cycling to work. Usually as they squeeze me against the kerb. A loud bang on the side window usually wakes them up, just be ready for the swerve

And people wonder why speed limits keep going down despite modern cars being vastly safer, faster and more capable at speed than those of the 1960s...

Yes, and "girl racers" are considerably more agressive than the classic 17 year old fella in chavved up Saxo/Fiesta/Whatever.

Well, actually now that I think of it, any female who gets it horribly wrong then instantly assumes it's the other party that's in the wrong and start gesticulating wildly. Like the girl who pulled out of a side road on to a NSL about 200m in front of me while I was doing 50-odd, in her 1.0i 106, then was doing the fingers and hopping up and down in her seat shouting because I buzzed her to avoid a fatal (for her) accident.

See them doing it all the time, looking down repeatedly and taking their eyes off the road. i always blare my horn at them to make the bhes jump.

My ex used to do this until I told her to stop, she didn't think it was dangerous

Exactly what I do as well- I also do it to people who are paying more attention to lighting up than on the road in front of them.

A bloke in a van did it to me the other week on the M4, and actually pushed me into the emergency lane by trying to merge into the side of my car. Properly fking dangerous.

See plenty of blokes doing this too, looking down and not concentrating on the road ahead.

OP, I totally agree with you re texting, but I don't get how its okay for builders to talk on there phones. I have lost count of the number of times I have had builders van's swerve in to my lane on dual carriageway, thanks to talking on the phone.

Usually in Mini's as well, huuuuge fly eyes sunglasses, I had one pull out on me when tanking along on me pushbike at 20 plus, she, being to busy letting Fifi or Sazzle about her fantastic new "Ugg" boots saw me but completely misjudged my speed, I slammed on (disks on the Cannondale, the Specialized with its rim brakes might not have stopped me), she pulled out then stopped when she realised she had got it wrong, managed to keep her phone to her ear, I called her a dumb bh and told here to get off her ffing phone, she managed to flick me the bird and screw it off, all without putting the phone down, her booting it one handed caused the car to pull into the opposite late, luckily no cars there.

Some people may be able to text and drive, bit none can do the driving properly when trying to compose a message on a small fiddly gadget, there have been deaths and I suspect a lot of repairs to Minis and 206 cc's are down to innatention due to mobile phones.

Not just girls. Everyone. It's worse here in Austria but the number of people I see texting or driving with their mobiles to their ears is shocking. Bunch of tts, the lot of them.
