Green L Plates
Discussion
Could anyone here furnish my mind with the understanding of the existence of green L plates? Red ones are fine, yes; green P plates seem a little worrying in my opinion, but at what point was it decided that there was a level of expertise between having not passed the test and having passed the test but are still unsure if your ability... Is it not a sign that licenses are too easy to get?

YawnThe only people I imagine having green L plates are fat ugly women in their late 30's with glasses who have just passed. Driving a Nissan Micra or Ford KA. But supposedly other people do to
Sorry if this offends a demographic of pistonheads which accurately matches that description. My imagination has been known to run wild, especially about Yvonne Strahovski

This is it - green p plates seem borderline as it is, so how come there is a whole lower level to it with a green L plate?
And to the tired bloke - go take some paracetamol and down a bottle of whiskey - that'll help you sleep
There aren't levels, there is red L plate then if you want you can put a green plate on the back of your car after passing to show you have recently passed. In some countries it is a legal requirement, how would you feel about green or red D plates? And to the tired bloke - go take some paracetamol and down a bottle of whiskey - that'll help you sleep
My girlfriend passed her test in a diesel, then bought a little petrol saxo, she is still getting used to it as its alot easier to stall, I suggested she put P plates on so when she stalls at traffic lights people might be a bit more cool about it instead of beeping like a tosser straight away.

Or England should adopt N. Ireland's "R plates" - first year after passing your test, you're "restricted" to 45mph, and must display the R plate on your car, so people can avoid you.
Typically the 45mph speed limit is ignored by the new drivers after 2 weeks, though.
Pretty daft really though, would you want to do 45 on a 70mph dual carrigeway?Typically the 45mph speed limit is ignored by the new drivers after 2 weeks, though.

The R Plates really are stupid, 1) limited to 45 mph on a dual carriageway and 2) means you're less likely to be used to driving at high speeds when they finally come offTypically the 45mph speed limit is ignored by the new drivers after 2 weeks, though.

I would have thought the first year after passing your test in Ireland consisted of doing doughnuts round a supermarket carpark in a BMW E30.Typically the 45mph speed limit is ignored by the new drivers after 2 weeks, though.
