HPI Check "Interest registered against a previous plate"

I know I'm going to be really disappointed here after viewing a cracking 968 I've HPI'd it and got the following


BEU733 was applied to this vehicle on 10/05/2001
This VRM has been recorded as being written-off
The insurance write-off was recorded on 03/04/2003 against a PORSCHE 968 SPORT

Vehicle Ownership

Police stolen VRM not currently recorded by the police as stolen
Insurance theft VRM not currently recorded by insurers as a theft
Outstanding finance VRM not currently recorded as having outstanding finance
Security watch VRM not currently recorded as at risk on the security register
Plate transfer Interest registered against a previous plate


Vehicle Condition

Condition alert VRM not recorded by insurers as a 'total loss'
Condition inspected VRM not recorded as a repaired insurance 'total loss'[/i]

Bit confused by the two conflicting statements. I guess the simple answer is to walk away?

The exact same thing happened me during the week, and to be honest i'm still not sure.

Looks okay to me. The plate is okay; a former owner had his plate on it and has subsequently not paid a fine or is in trouble with his car finance or something but on a different car. The condition is okay; if it said it had been recorded as a total you should worry. The report says it hasn't.

Dicky, it's the fact it listed as a write off 968 in one section under a different reg but elsewhere on the report it says it hasn't been.

And yes, there have been times in the past when I have been a sucker when it comes to buying cars. Love at first sight and all that.

So make them a lower offer, it could have been repaired properly.

can't see an obvious way on the HPI site to do that?

Being a write off doesn't always mean it was damaged. After a car is stolen and not recovered in around 6 weeks the owner will be paid out and the car will be recorded as a write off, then once the car is recovered it will be sold as a stolen recovery. Make them a silly offer if its that good.

Spoken to HPI, Cat C write off in 2003. Walked away, sadly. No problem with the condition of the car today, just re-sale would be a huge issue and I don't tend to keep cars that long.

They confirmed the "interest" was with the car I was looking at from checking up on the cherished plate in addition to the current plate. They also confirmed it was a Cat C.
