What questions do you ask when buying a car?

Inspired by the "Things that put you off going to see a car?" thread, I thought it would be interesting to hear what people ask when buying a car; both before you go to view it, and when you get there.

I would expect to ask, or be asked, to fill in the information the advert didn't give

- service history or maintenance regeime
- mileage
- owner history, and usage
- any significant problems (you never know...if you don't ask, you won't find out)
- exact model and specs

Then, where they are, whether they're happy for a test drive, then arraging a time to meet andf so on.


things that annoy me are stupid attempts to get the price down

eg: "I can only afford £xxx amount"
response: "well, buy another car then".

Make sure you like the car and happy with it/paperworks before test driving.

Ask them what was done at the last service with receipts as proof. If they can't give me a straight answer or have been skimping on repairs i normally walk away. Good car owners care about the cars
